Four wheel drive developing an Immersive experience for york.

Project Announcement

FOUR WHEEL DRIVE launches their next big project, an immersive experience in the Guildhall under their project name IMMERSE.

'This is a huge creative endeavour for us, and we've been developing the concept and story with a talented team of writers since the start of this year.' Anna Gallon, Artistic Director

The project sits under the companies IMMERSE 'wheel' which focusses on creating immersive 'off-road' theatrical experiences, exciting work in non-traditional spaces.

The Trial of Margaret Clitherow

Step into the council chambers, 1586, for the infamous trial of Margaret Clitherow. She has been accused of harbouring catholic priests, a crime punishable by death. The council must act to protect its integrity.

Immerse yourself in the tension and intrigue as the council chambers come alive with the echoes of history. As a Councillor, you will review evidence, dissect witness statements and determine the outcome.

The council's precedence depends on your votes; how will you use your influence?

This immersive experience questions loyalty, faith and justice with an ending moulded by the audience.

The Council Chambers, York

The Guildhall is a prestigious, historic venue built in the 15th century in the centre of York. Restoration began in 2019 and finished in 2022 and it is now managed by York Science Park.

The experience will take place in the council chambers, where the Council still meets today.

With its rich history and architectural grandeur, the council chambers serve as a stimulating backdrop for IMMERSE. This esteemed venue, steeped in tradition, allows the audience to become active participants, forging an intimate connection with the performers and becoming immersed in a transformative theatrical experience.

'We're very grateful to York Conferences and Events for their ongoing support of the project!' Joly Black, Executive Producer
